Résumé
The influence of the casting process on the microstructure of industrial Pb-2.7Sb alloy and the effects of the microstructural variations on its corrosion resistance in salt water have been investigated. The effect of the cooling rate on the microstructure was studied to describe the relation between the liquidus velocity and the secondary arm spacing parameter. The results confirm models predicted by previous authors, but a new coefficient comes to light. The second part of this study is devoted to the impact of the cooling rate on the corrosion process in salt water, revealing variations in corrosion behavior. An increase of the cooling rate increases the corrosion resistance of the alloy by accelerating the rate of production of the passivation film, whereas an increase in the NaCl concentration leads to a decrease in the corrosion resistance by removing this film.
